Willows grow back relatively quickly. We’d reduced this one two years previously. Here are the before and after photos showing our work pruning a willow tree.

Someone else had pollarded this tree (cut back to bare stumps) before we got to it initially. Willows are relatively hardy, so under the right conditions that can be a good approach.
However, the customer decided they wanted us to leave it looking as natural as possible, while considerably smaller and less dense. They got much more sunlight as a result. Also, pedestrians could use the pavement more easily. We call this job specification “reduce back to previous reduction points, maintaining shorter regrowth”.
