Willows grow back relatively quickly. We’d reduced this one two years previously. Here are the before and after photos showing our work reducing a willow.
Someone else had pollarded this tree (cut back to bare stumps) before we got to it initially. Willows are relatively hardy, so under the right conditions that can be a good approach.
However, the customer decided they wanted us to leave it looking as natural as possible, while considerably smaller and less dense. They got much more sunlight as a result. Also, pedestrians could use the pavement more easily. We call this job specification “reduce back to previous reduction points, maintaining shorter regrowth”.
